this is what we're about...

Want to help save the planet (slash, life as we know it)?

Me too.

That’s why “the alternative future” was created. A platform designed to aid regular, everyday heroes like ourselves in making the most sustainable, well informed choices across a growing number of niches.

“the alternative future” is a progressive alternative energy based website, focused on spurring the global shift away from fossil fuels, on a personal level. Our community recognizes the importance of sustainability and how current unsustainable practices are affecting our planet. We all want to make a change, but it needs to be straightforward. We just need some direction.

(smokebomb entrance) …Us!

"That's all well and good... but who are you!?!"

“I am Mj”
Matt Johnston – Founder

Growing up on the golden sands of coastal Australia had its perks. Endless beach breaks, pristine bush to explore, ALL the fishing. Heck, even a cheeky trip to the “mountains” for some epic southern hemisphere skiing on the annual.

I grew up (arguably), and after 20 years in the heat, decided to pendulum swing into the Canadian mountains. Again, immersed in nature, perhaps more-so.  Trading the surfboard and spearfishing for snowboards and climbing gear, downhill bikes, whitewater kayaks (the list goes on…), I’m a decade deep in the north, and I am home.

Nature… home.

Yeah, I like that.

This is my foundation. This nature abundant lifestyle has shaped me in ways indescribable. It is within me, and I cherish it.

I want the same for my children’s children. And their kids.

I want the water to be clean enough that they may surf till their hearts are content. I want the forests to be lush, dripping with diversity. I want the oceans to be abundant and teeming with life. I want the snow to still fall as snow.

So. How do I gift this connection to my progeny? What steps can I take that will nurture positive change?

Yep. You guessed it. You’re on it’s doorstep.

so get this...

To limit warming to 1.5C, global net CO2 emissions must drop by 45% between 2010 and 2030, and reach net zero around 2050.

Climate pledges under The Paris Agreement cover only one third of the emissions reductions needed to keep the world below 2°C.

So who picks up the slack? We do. We all do. Collectively. And it is going to be way easier, and way more fun than you think.

Let us show you the way into the future.

"So what's in it for me?"...

I’m glad you asked.

Your time is precious. I get it. So is mine. But here’s the kicker.

I dedicate my time to thoroughly research all things alternative energy, so that you don’t have to. This in turn allows me to investigate, assess and provide valuable recommendations to you, my fellow daily heroes, so that you may spend your time doing the things that you love.

I believe in working smarter, not harder.

Therefore, if I can do the work for you, then I have done the work for 10 people, or 100 or… you get the idea.

And in this way we will, collectively, get this proverbial snowball rolling so fast the future won’t know what hit it…

You’re welcome, grandchildren.
